Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements a student must have for admission into the M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Medical Sciences programs are as follows:
  • an undergraduate degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 in the last two years of undergraduate or graduate study at the University of Alberta, or equivalent qualification from another institution,
  • a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (paper-based) or 95 with at least 20 per section (internet-based); MELAB minimum score of 91; CAEL minimum score of 70 with at least 70 on each subtest; or IELTS minimum score of 7.5 with at least 6 on each band, and
  • meet Departmental criteria over and above the minimal requirements of the Medical Sciences Graduate Program.  These are:
    • graduation in medicine for the clinical research areas.

Before a student gets accepted into our graduate program,
three conditions must be satisfied (and in this order):
1. There must be a supervisor willing to take them as a graduate student

2. There must be a mutually agreed-upon research project that will form the basis of the student's thesis
3 .Funding must be in place for the student to complete their degree (usually 2 - 2.5 years for a Masters, 4-5 years for a Ph.D.)
If even one of these conditions is missing, the student will not be accepted.

Before applying either online or via a hardcopy,

 conditions # 1 and # 2 must be satisfied.

Once conditions #1 and #2 have been met, and as instructed by the supervisor, you may formally apply either on-line or via hardcopy documents
